Chris and Carol Green are the senior pastor and 1st lady of Urban Life
Church in Harrisburg, PA. They are also affiliate pastors with the
Urban Pastors and Leaders
Alliance International,
headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, under
Bishop Raphael Green. They
qualified for the position to lead the Urban Life Church of
Harrisburg, PA by fulfilling the Biblical requirements of 1 Timothy 3, over a testing period
of seventeen years.
* An overseer then must be blameless, the husband of
one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to
teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle,
not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having
his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not
know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of
God?); not a novice,
lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the
same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must have a
good testimony
among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of
the devil.
1 Timothy 3:1-10
They were officially acknowledged and released into this ministry on May 30, 2004.
Surrounded by family, friends,
church elders, fellow leaders, church members and well
wishers, they were sent forth with the laying on of hands in
a glorious
Commissioning Service and Ceremony. In July of 2004, they moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
(Carol's birthplace) to begin a new phase in their life and
ministry.
The foundation laying aspects of their ministry began in
September of 2004 as Chris and Carol launched weekly prayer and church planters training. They also ministered in a weekly food
outreach, participated in city-wide prayer gatherings, and spoke in
several local church services.
On Friday, March 25, 2005,
they held their first public gathering and on March 27, 2005 they held
their first Sunday gathering, thus officially announcing the local church fellowship and its
partnering ministry
Fruitful Life Network of Ministries, Inc.
Since that time, they have worked to establish a ministry TEAM that
would help them reach the hurting hearts and homes of Harrisburg, PA.
To clarify the role of
the church's mission, the name
Urban Life Church
was established
on July 27, 2009.
By the
grace of God,
this
relatively small ministry has constructed a solid new-generation outreach to
connect the Harrisburg community with foundational Bible teaching,
ministry to children, ministry to couples, ministry to men and
women, several online classes, free DVD's, free audio CD's, free books, online sermon
web cast, and various social media strategies (i.e. weekly
e-Newsletters and emails) to equip 21st century Believers
with the Word of God that will build their faith and families.
As authors, they have written seven books together: Six
devotional books for their church
family and one book about marriage and family relationships titled
We Made a PACT (Promise of
Accountability, Commitment and Trust).
Chris has written
two additional books:
What NOW
(Nuggets of Wisdom to Navigate the Maze of Transition, Trials and
Change),
and a romantic short story called,
Love You Still.
As itinerant speakers they engage small groups or
larger assemblies in settings ranging from training sessions to
church congregational gatherings. Most often they address issues
involving the healing of hearts and homes. They also provide
encouragement for church supportive leadership, while moving in
prophetic gifts to exhort and build the church family. Their travels
have taken them from coast to coast in the United States, to Hawaii,
the Bahamas, Trinidad, the United Kingdom, and to Monrovia, Liberia,
West Africa.
Chris and Carol
completed five years of formal ministry training in their home
church (Metro Christian Worship Center in St. Louis,
Missouri) and to further enhance his education, Chris completed two business
certificate programs at the
University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Continuing
Education Division. They both completed a
lay-counseling certificate program from the
American
Association of Christian Counselors.
They continue to expand and grow in their ministry and professional
development through their current enrollment in the
Covenant Theological Seminary's Worldwide
Classroom.
For
nearly seventeen years,
(14 as associate pastors) Chris
and Carol Green served the congregation of
Metro Christian Worship Center in Saint Louis, Missouri. They were officially ordained as pastors
in May of 1992. They
faithfully supported the senior
pastor
by overseeing and laying the foundation for the teenagers, young adults, singles, and pre-marital
ministries. Chris also laid foundation for the multi-media department (resource center, radio, television, computer
graphics, presentations, publications, etc.) and
the
business management of the local church.
They became known as Dad Chris
and Mom Carol to the young
adults and teenagers in their home church because of the emotional and relational healing ministry that
came through their lives and guidance. They used "easy to understand"
basic Bible teaching
and cultural and ethnic expressions of music
and dance in their weekly meetings to help young people identify
with God and Biblical principles. They have
written over 100 songs that have been used for children
and teenagers as well as many local church community outreach efforts.
They have been involved in
nearly every aspect of church life ranging from housekeeping and janitorial work
to executive administration and pastoral care.
Chris also served as the
executive vice president of
Metro Associates, Inc, a community
outreach organization based in St. Louis, Missouri.
As program director of media outreach, from 1989 until 2004, Chris helped
coordinate annual street outreach and events.
He produced an award
winning cable TV broadcast called Urban
Liberation and established two music publishing companies called
Heart of the Nation Music
and Metro
Arts Publishing, through the
Arts & Productions division of Metro
Associates.
Chris and Carol have
been married since December 29, 1980 (wedding ceremony on January 3,
1981) and are the proud parents
of three adult sons: Christopher,
Jonathan and David as well as a host of people throughout the world
who call them 'mom and dad'.
